TradingView Essential Plan: 3 Limits That Push You to Pay

The TradingView Essential plan costs $12.95/month billed annually and directly addresses the three free-tier caps that most active retail traders hit first: 2…

    The Verdict

TradingView scores 95 because there is almost nothing to argue with. The charts are the category standard, the free tier is genuinely usable rather than a demo, and the reason people stay is portability: your layouts, indicators and drawings follow you when you change broker. Price-to-value and usability both max out at 20. The only pillar that is not near-perfect is signal quality, and that is a category limit rather than a fault. TradingView gives you a canvas, not a verdict.

    The Watch-Out

The limits that bite are on alerts, not charts. Lower tiers cap how many alerts you can hold and how long they survive, and the free plan carries ads. If alerts are central to how you trade, price the tier you actually need rather than the one on the headline.

TradingView is the answer to the version of that question about charts rather than picks. One setup, learned once, that keeps working no matter which broker you end up executing through.

“There's a lot of brokers out there who's charting solutions are terrible, but their executions are great or pricing structure is great, or whatever... TV allows you to be consistent with your charts no matter who you are trading with. If you change brokers, your chart settings don't change”

“TOS charting is terrible comparatively. I place trades in TOS but still use TradingView for charting.”

“Meanwhile the limitations that pushed people to upgrade in the first place never get fixed - alerts on Plus still expire after two months, so if you set a price target that takes three months to reach, the alert is just gone. At $35/month that's hard to swallow.”

    Pros and Cons

    What works

    • Charts are the category benchmark and the free tier is genuinely usable
    • Settings travel across brokers, which is the single most cited reason people stay
    • Enormous public library of community indicators
    • Works the same on desktop, web and mobile

    What doesn’t

    • Alert caps and expiry windows bite on the lower paid tiers
    • Ads on the free plan
    • Real-time exchange data is billed separately on top
    • Every tier is labelled a special price with no standard price shown for comparison
