ChatGPT Stock Analysis | Catch the AI's Mistakes in 90 Seconds

An AI analyst just wrote a confident report on a company. Some of it is wrong. You have 90 seconds and one source of truth. Find the mistakes before they find your money.

Short answer

Use ChatGPT stock analysis for words, never for numbers you haven't checked. Three checks catch most mistakes: match every figure to one source you trust, ask for the date of every number, and open the link behind every claimed source. If the AI agrees with you fast, make it argue against you.

Mission briefing

The AI sounds sure of itself. Is it right?

  1. Read the source of truth. A data panel for a fictional company.
  2. Scan the AI report. 10 lines, 3 to 5 of them wrong.
  3. Flag the mistakes. +20 per catch, -10 per false flag, bonus for time left.

Same report for everyone today. New one at midnight Eastern.

Can you trust ChatGPT stock analysis?

Trust it the way you'd trust a fast intern on their first day. It writes clean summaries, explains a business model in plain English, and turns a 90-page filing into a page you can read on the train.

Numbers are where it slips. A chatbot can mix up two companies, quote last year's quarter as the latest, or round a figure into something that never existed. It does all of this in the same confident tone it uses when it's right, which is the whole problem.

So split the job. Let the AI draft. You verify. The game above trains the second half.

Why does AI make up stock prices and sources?

A language model predicts the most likely next words. It doesn't look things up unless the product you're using connects it to live data, and even then it can blend what it found with what it remembers.

When it lacks a number, it fills the gap with a plausible one. When it wants to sound credible, it reaches for a credible-sounding outlet. A real publication name attached to a claim that was never published is one of the most common mistakes, and one of the most expensive to miss.

How do you fact-check an AI stock report in 2 minutes?

Check numbers first. Pick one source you trust, like the company's latest filing or your broker's quote page, and compare every price, ratio and revenue figure against it.

Check dates second. Ask the AI when each number is from. Stale data is the quiet error: the figure was right once, just not this quarter.

Check sources third. Every "according to a report" needs a link you can open. No link, no claim. Then scan for two tells: praise of your idea and a missing list of risks.

Can AI predict the stock market?

Not reliably, and nobody has shown otherwise with audited, out-of-sample results. AI is useful for research: reading filings, comparing companies, and stress-testing your thinking. It is not a crystal ball, and any tool that sells it as one deserves a hard look.

What prompts stop an AI from agreeing with you?

Give it a job that isn't agreement. Ask it to argue the bear case, rank the 3 ways your trade loses money, attach a date and a source to every number, and say "I don't know" instead of guessing.

Our free Bear Case Generator writes that prompt for you in four steps.

Hallucination Hunt questions, answered

No. Every company and ticker is fictional and built for training. We checked each ticker against the full list of active US listings so none of them match a real stock.
