The Verdict

SpotGamma buys expensive data, models dealer gamma exposure from it, and sells you the output. The data is real. The modelling is serious. The recurring complaint from r/options is not that the numbers are fake, it is that they are inert: data without insight, as one long-time subscriber put it before cancelling. Gamma flip levels also vary by more than 30 SPX points between vendors, which tells you the number is a model output and not a measurement. At $99 a month for Essential and $299 for Alpha, you are paying institutional prices for a signal you still have to learn to trade. The subscribers who keep it are the ones who already had a framework and wanted better inputs. The ones who cancel expected the levels to tell them what to do.

The Watch-Out

SpotGamma's own pricing page is a mess and you need to know that before you compare quotes. The URL spotgamma.com/pricing redirects to a noindex webinar funnel with different tier names and a 50%-off offer. The canonical page renders two contradictory tier sets at once, and several 'first month $X then $Y' lines are stale template text — the Institutional tier shows 'First month $17, then $89/mo' underneath a $1,999 headline. Most importantly, discounted annuals are first-year-only: $534 steps up to $891, and $1,494 steps up to $2,691 at renewal. There is no free tier.

Who this is for

  • Index options traders who already have a framework and want better positioning inputs

  • Anyone who cannot absorb $891 a year before knowing whether they can use it

The Pain It Solves

“I subscribed to SpotGamma for a while. It's not quite a scam but it's not particularly useful either. There might be something in there to get your money's worth...but you'd be paying a lot of money and still need to work hard at it. They are paying for expensive data and passing that data on to you.”

SpotGamma

That review is fair and it names the real cost, which is not the subscription. SpotGamma gives you levels; converting levels into trades is work you do. Before you subscribe, write down the specific decision you want the data to change — position size into a gamma flip, strike selection around a call wall, whether to hold through an OpEx. If you cannot name the decision, the levels will be interesting and useless. If you can, paper-trade them for a month before you renew.

What Users Say

“I used it for months and eventually dropped the subscription. I found that their founder's note slowly morphed from market analysis to sales material and I never found anything actionable in their tech. Their software is not great. There is no UI or design coherence to speak of, they don't advocate real positions or take a stance, there are some very good traders in their discord but it is the sort of usual mix of totally ignorant and the quiet professionals.”

“In their founder's note they often showcase examples of HIRO patterns (such as "bullish reversal"), but they are extremely cherry picked with hindsight of the whole day. They've never shown themselves predicting the stock movement in real-time based on a HIRO pattern using that indicator.”

“I have Spot Gamma, it's amazing, I'd feel like I was trading in the dark without it. There's a learning curve for sure so expect to spend some time on that.”

“SpotGamma is a black box, Helios is more honest. IMHO gamma flip is overrated as a signal. It seems every service builds the flip from OI plus the assumption that customers are net long puts and dealers carry the opposite. Institutional flow sells volatility in both directions and retail buys both sides. The dealer book is not a clean inverse. Different services publish different flip levels for the same day. If they can't agree within 30 SPX points where the flip is, it's a probability cloud being drawn as a line.”

“Bookmap for me. SpotGamma isn't something that's worth it for me because you can get 70% of the information you need yourself by using VIX, Overnight High and Low, with market profile key levels and a few other bits and pieces.”

Pros and Cons

What works

  • Genuinely expensive options data, modelled and delivered daily rather than left raw
  • HIRO, TRACE, Equity Hub, the Volatility Dashboard and Scanners are a deep toolset
  • Daily Founder's Note plus live weekly webinars and an active Discord
  • The annual rate saves $297 on Essential and $897 on Alpha against monthly billing

What doesn’t

  • Subscribers repeatedly describe the output as data without actionable insight
  • Gamma flip levels differ by over 30 SPX points across competing vendors
  • Users say the HIRO examples in the Founder's Note are cherry-picked with hindsight
  • Discounted annual pricing is first-year only and steps up sharply at renewal
  • The public pricing page renders two contradictory tier sets and stale promotional copy
  • No free tier, so there is no way to evaluate it without paying
